چکیده

Abstract ASTAROTH is a novel R&D project which aims at improving the physics reach of future direct dark matter detection experiments based on NaI(Tl) scintillating crystals. There strong need to test long standing DAMA positive observation an annual modulation that could be due Dark Matter (DM), with same target material and in model independent way. aim enhancement sensitivity signal, compared present technology, by lowering energy threshold order observe sub-keV recoils for first time. This can achieved reading scintillation light from crystals arrays Silicon PhotoMultipliers (SiPM), placing detectors cryogenic environment. SiPMs feature lower noise than Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs) T < 150 K allow higher collection. The cooling medium liquid Argon, as it excellent scintillator instrumented act veto against several backgrounds. Here we status project, introducing innovative design detector chamber will used demonstration technology. Then, show preliminary results our ever measurements performed single crystal read out one SiPM array set-up cooled nitrogen.

Annual modulation sensitivity in cold dark matter searches

The sensitivity of experiments looking for annual modulated signals is discussed and analyzed. The choice of energy intervals for rate integration and enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio of the predicted WIMP signal is addressed. Special emphasis is placed on quantifying the minimum required exposure, MT , under experimental conditions. The difficulty reduces to establish the proper separation ...

Colloquium: Annual modulation of dark matter

Direct detection experiments, which are designed to detect the scattering of dark matter off nuclei in detectors, are a critical component in the search for the Universe’s missing matter. This Colloquium begins with a review of the physics of direct detection of dark matter, discussing the roles of both the particle physics and astrophysics in the expected signals. The count rate in these exper...

On the annual modulation signal in dark matter direct detection

We derive constraints on the annual modulation signal in Dark Matter (DM) direct detection experiments in terms of the unmodulated event rate. A general bound independent of the details of the DM distribution follows from the assumption that the motion of the earth around the sun is the only source of time variation. The bound is valid for a very general class of particle physics models and als...

Coupling dark energy to dark matter inhomogeneities

We propose that dark energy in the form of a scalar field could effectively couple to dark matter inhomogeneities. Through this coupling energy could be transferred to/from the scalar field, which could possibly enter an accelerated regime. Though phenomenological, this scenario is interesting as it provides a natural trigger for the onset of the acceleration of the universe, since dark energy ...

Alternatives to Dark Matter and Dark Energy

We review the underpinnings of the standard Newton-Einstein theory of gravity, and identifywhere it could possibly go wrong. In particular, we discuss the logical independence from eachother of the general covariance principle, the equivalence principle and the Einstein equations, anddiscuss how to constrain the matter energy-momentum tensor which serves as the source of gravity.<lb...
